Ocorrências da semana 27 de julho à 03 de junho

Large fire at Guarita Port

The most prominent event of the week was the large fire that occurred on Saturday night (1st) at Orla/Porto da Guarita, in front of CIOSP. The fire, which reportedly started in an aluminum canoe loaded with fuel, quickly spread to at least nine vessels, causing significant material damage. A port worker was injured with burns and received assistance. The Fire Department acted to contain the flames, including sinking the vessel where the fire is believed to have originated. Owners of the affected vessels, who depend on them for their livelihood, expressed interest in investigating the facts.

Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence

Domestic violence continued to be a recurring theme. On Monday (27), the Military Police were called after a woman reported being physically assaulted by her partner, who also allegedly uttered insults and threats. On Saturday (1st), another case was registered in the Vila Vitória neighborhood, with the victim being referred for a bodily injury examination. In another serious case on the same day, a woman reported that her ex-partner, against whom she has a protective order, had set fire to her vehicle in the early hours. The action was allegedly captured by security cameras. Ending the week, on Monday (3), a new incident was registered after a woman reported being assaulted by her partner in a commercial establishment, seeking to formalize a request for a protective order.

Fighting Drug Trafficking

Security forces operations resulted in arrests related to drug trafficking. On Monday (27), patrolling on Avenida Presidente Kennedy led to the arrest of suspicious individuals. The police team approached a residence where they found several portions of narcotic substances, in addition to an electric bicycle reported stolen. Two suspects were detained. On Friday (31), at Porto da Vila Vitória, police officers spotted an individual who tried to flee and threw a bag into the river. When approached, portions of narcotics were found in his possession. On the same date, two foreign citizens were arrested on BR-156, at the PRF Operational Unit, after the sniffer dog indicated the presence of illicit substances in their luggage during an inspection of an intercity bus.

Traffic, thefts and other occurrences

On Tuesday (28), a driver was caught by the PRF on BR-156 driving under the influence of alcohol and was taken to the police station. On Wednesday (29), a burglary with forced entry into a residence was reported, with no suspects identified so far. On Saturday (1st), a woman contacted the police to report a traffic accident that occurred days earlier, in which she was hit by a pickup truck while riding a motorcycle on the street leading to Bairro Belmonte. The driver of the other vehicle reportedly fled the scene without providing assistance. The week also saw a disagreement during an event on Thursday (30), where a woman allegedly threw food in another's face after refusing to pay, with both parties being referred for legal action.
