Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence in Focus

Domestic and gender-based violence was a recurring theme this week. The suspect pushed her, squeezed her arm, and stole her cell phone at her workplace. Also on Monday (26), at night, in the Praça Arena, an argument during a volleyball game escalated into physical aggression, with a woman and her daughter confronting another participant. A serious case of domestic violence culminated in an attack with a bladed weapon on Sunday (31), in the Infraero neighborhood. A woman, after being assaulted by her partner, went to a bar where he was and attacked him with a knife in the arm. Both were detained by the Military Police and taken to CIOSP.

Regarding violence against women, on June 1st, a woman reported that her ex-partner did not accept the end of the relationship and physically assaulted her and threatened her with death, including through app messages. The victim reported that the Military Police intervened on the scene, but the threats allegedly continued. On the same day, a man was arrested in flagrante at CIOSP for disobeying a protective order and making threats, after his ex-partner reported that he was following her and remained at the police unit. The Preventive Arrest Warrant had already been open since May 27th.

Fight Against Drug Trafficking Results in Arrests

Military and Civil Police operations resulted in several seizures and arrests related to drug trafficking. On Monday (25) night, on Avenida Joaquim Caetano, two individuals, one of them a teenager, were approached with portions of narcotics and money, supposedly from the sale of illicit substances.

On Tuesday (26) morning, a search and seizure warrant resulted in the arrest of a woman and the seizure of narcotics, money, and foreign currency. On Thursday (28) afternoon, an anonymous tip led the Military Police to arrest two people in the downtown area, who were allegedly trafficking drugs using a motorcycle. Portions of narcotics were found on the motorcycle and at the offender's residence.

On Saturday (30) night, on the city's waterfront, a motorcycle taxi driver was approached acting suspiciously and surprised with portions of narcotics. He is being investigated for allegedly acquiring the drug in French Guiana to resell in Oiapoque, using his profession and motorcycle for deliveries, and reportedly sold to an individual before the approach.

Cases of Child Abuse and Mistreatment

The week was also marked by reports of abuse and mistreatment. On Monday (25), a man was detained by local residents after attempting to sexually abuse a minor. He allegedly offered money to the young girl and tried to grab her, but the intervention of a resident prevented him. The suspect, who showed injuries on his body, was taken to the hospital and then to the police station.

On Wednesday (27), the Civil Police became aware of a severe case of mistreatment of a 14-year-old teenager, who lived with family members. The minor reported being constantly assaulted. The Guardianship Council followed the case, which gained visibility after audios and reports from unidentified third parties. The teenager was removed from her family environment.

In another case of abuse, also on Wednesday (27), a municipal school forwarded a report about the alleged rape of a vulnerable 10-year-old child, committed by a family member. The minor reportedly disclosed the abuse during a class, showing strong emotional distress and fear. On the same day, a 13-year-old teenager reported that a family member, who cohabits in the property, had been sexually molesting her since she was 8 years old. The victim's sister intervened at the moment of the abuse, preventing the act from continuing.
