Inácio Maciel takes office as mayor of Oiapoque
With the presence of state and federal authorities, Inácio Maciel (PDT) took office this Saturday (2/5) as mayor of Oiapoque after winning the by-election.

The inauguration ceremony
This Saturday, May 2, 2026, Oiapoque experienced a historic moment: the inauguration ceremony of Mayor Inácio Maciel (PDT) and Deputy Mayor Oscar Gislael (Rede). The ceremony brought together authorities, political leaders, public servants, and an enthusiastic audience of supporters who filled the space with applause and celebration.
The inauguration marked the beginning of a new municipal administration after the by-election held on April 12, 2026, convened by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) due to the removal of the previous mayor. Inácio Maciel emerged victorious in a close dispute and takes office with the mandate to complete the term until 2028.
Authorities present
The ceremony was attended by prominent political leaders from the state and the country. The Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, the Governor of Amapá, Clécio Luiz, and Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP) were present. The presence of the three authorities in Oiapoque reinforces the strategic importance of the municipality on the political agenda of Amapá and the federal government.
The challenges of the new administration
The new administration takes over Oiapoque at a time of transformations. The city is experiencing an economic boom driven by oil prospecting operations at the mouth of the Amazon, with hundreds of offshore workers and regular flights moving the local airport. At the same time, this growth brings structural challenges in the areas of housing, health, urban mobility, and basic services.
In the educational field, the approval of the Unifron Bill in the Chamber of Deputies — which will transform the Unifap Oiapoque campus into an autonomous federal university — represents a historic opportunity that the new administration can take advantage of to strengthen the city's development. Conexão Oiapoque will closely follow the first steps of the Inácio Maciel administration.
