Voter ID: deadline ends on May 6th
There are only a few days left until the closing of the electoral register. Those who do not regularize their voter ID by May 6th will be excluded from the October 2026 elections.

Why is the deadline May 6th?
The Election Law (Law No. 9,504/1997) determines that the electoral registry must be closed 150 days before the election. As the 2026 General Elections are scheduled for October 4th, the final deadline for any movement related to the voter ID is May 6th. Those who do not regularize their situation by this date will not be able to vote in October — and may face other restrictions provided by law, such as difficulties in obtaining a passport, negative certificates, and participating in public tenders.
What you can do until May 6
Until the deadline, it is possible to carry out the following services: apply for the first voter ID; transfer electoral domicile (those who live in Oiapoque but are still registered in another municipality); update registration data such as name, address or photo; and regularize pending issues such as canceled voter IDs or outstanding electoral fines. Voter registration and voting are mandatory for Brazilians between 18 and 70 years old, and optional for young people aged 16 and 17, illiterates and those over 70 years old.
How to get it regularized — online or in person
The request can be made in two ways. The most practical is through the Electoral Self-Service, available on the TSE portal: tse.jus.br. Those who already have biometrics collected can solve everything online. For those who do not yet have biometrics registered, it is necessary to go in person to the Electoral Office of Oiapoque to complete the service. The necessary documents are: official photo ID (RG, CNH or passport), recent proof of residence and, for men who turn 19 in 2026, proof of military service discharge. Don't leave it until the last minute — the offices get crowded on the final days.
What's at stake in October for Oiapoque
The General Elections of October 2026 do not choose a mayor — Oiapoque just elected Inácio Maciel (PDT), who takes office on May 6, and the next municipal election will only occur in 2028. But October will be decisive for choosing the municipality's representatives in the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap), in the Chamber of Deputies, in the Federal Senate, and in the State Government. With Inácio Maciel's victory in the by-election, the local political board shifted: Pedro Filé (PDT) took over the state deputy vacancy left by Inácio, and names linked to the border are already articulating candidacies for October. Those with up-to-date voter registration will have a voice in this dispute.
Attention: don't fall for fake news
The electoral period is fertile ground for misinformation. The TSE warns that it does not send emails to voters announcing the cancellation of their voter ID. Any message of this type is a scam. To check the status of your voter ID, access the official website directly: tse.jus.br. In case of doubt, contact the Cartório Eleitoral de Oiapoque.
